Poplar Wrestlers Compete During Mixer In Circle

Poplar’s wrestlers displayed their talents during a mixer held in Circle on Tuesday, Jan. 11.

Poplar’s freshman Angelina Escarcega scored two victories during the night’s action.

Escarcega dominated action and defeated Circle’s Santiago Alonzo, 21-5, in her first match. Escarcega led 10-2 after the first period and 18-5 after the second period.

Escarcega then capped her night with a victory over Circle’s Ruben Nelson.

Defending state champion Jazmin Gorder needed just 1:08 to pin Circle’s Cierra Norton.

Landon Young posted a record of 1-1 during the night.

Young dropped an exciting match against Circle’s Nelson. The score was deadlocked at 8-8 early in the third period, but Nelson went on to win on a pin at 5:28.

Young bounced back with a victory over Circle’s Alonzo.
