In 2018, the staff at Roosevelt Medical Center started a small Employee of the Quarter recognition program to keep morale up and recognize staff who repeatedly went above and beyond their duties.

At the request of Audrey Stromberg, the CEO and Administrator, the program was designed to focus solely on front line staff and not senior leadership. However, since the program’s inception, Stromberg has been nominated for recognition several times. This quarter, she was nominated again. This time, the committee voted unanimously to recognize her as the Employee of the Quarter. With strong reservations about the necessity of her recognition, she accepted, gratefully.

Some staff said Stromberg is a strong leader because her title doesn’t stop her from stepping up to perform whatever task is at hand. If the kitchen is short-handed, she’ll wash dishes. If there’s a spill on the floor, she’ll mop it up. She’ll immediately stop what she’s doing to assist residents to where they want to go or bring them something they need. She leads by example and proves it daily through her actions.

Stromberg is taxed with ensuring every aspect of the facility operates optimally while balancing rules and regulations in an ever-changing healthcare landscape.

“The job I do every day isn’t successful because of my actions alone. This is a collective effort of many departments and staff who each do their job to the best of their ability to ensure we function at our very best, each and every day,” she said.

Today, she leads a team comprised of some 70 professional team members and a governing board of seven. She also serves as the ex-officio member of the Roosevelt Memorial Healthcare Foundation and its eight members.

“Audrey has a difficult job, but always strives for that perfect, impossible balance of making patients, their families, staff and the governing board function fluidly and with the least amount of friction while always acutely focused on quality, patient care,” said Liz Mogen, business office manager.

Unlike many C-Suite leaders, Stromberg has an opendoor policy. She makes time for staff and community members whenever they stop in.

“Audrey is fair, always willing to listen and has been an advocate for improvement processes and patient care. She is very passionate about RMC and the service and care we provide our patients,” said Karla Hunter, director of nursing.

When Stromberg first received the news of her nomination, she requested it be given to someone more deserving.

“I really feel there were much more deserving staff members who should have received this recognition,” Stromberg said.

Born in Terry, Stromberg always had an interest in nursing. Although she first planned on attending medical school, she decided to focus on nursing and obtained her bachelor’s degree from Montana State University Bozeman. Before coming to RMC in 2000, she worked as a registered nurse in Plentywood for 11 years. She was then hired as the director of nursing at RMC but only held that position for two weeks before being promoted to the role of administrator.
