Lucas Represents Culbertson High School Well

Senior Profile
Morgan Lucas has made a name for herself in speech and drama at Culbertson High School.
The senior has enjoyed success in memorized public address since her freshman year. She placed sixth at the divisional level and qualified for the state meet in her sophomore year.
She said that her topic one year was that every kid needs a hero. For the last couple of years, her topic has been handling stress and anxiety.
“I deal with anxiety and my family has dealt with anxiety,” Lucas explained why she selected the subject.
She said her favorite thing about speech and drama is meeting new people. “I made friends all over the state including the western side,” Lucas said.
She was the only senior on Culbertson’s volleyball squad that qualified for the divisional meet.
“We’ve never made it when I was in high school,” Lucas said of advancing to the divisional level.
She played outside hitter and she says her strong point was hitting.
In the classroom, her favorite class is history.
“It’s a different learning environment,” Lucas said. “He doesn’t teach from the book.”
Her favorite teachers are Mary Machart and Janelle Ator. She said both teachers have pushed her to become better.
“It it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t be graduating,” Lucas said of Ator.
After high school, Lucas plans to attend MSU-Billings and major in education. She hopes to become an elementary teacher at a smaller school such as Culbertson.
