‘JUST A WONDERFUL GUY’
The tall..handsome...bronzed Adonis strode towards me from the workshop...wiping the grease from his work-hardened hands with an old shop rag...and grinning from ear-to-ear. “HELLO SCOTT!”....His deep voice booming across the barnyard like the Hammer Of Thor!
“Hey Guy....what’s happenin?”....I had just pulled in to the Huber Homestead to evacuate their septic tank ...and by the time I was through.. I had rid the whole Huber Families of the gruesome stuff...3 tanks in all...
Now...l knew all the Hubers to be good people... to be sure..most farm folk are...but something about Guy struck me the first time I met him.....and never left... Kind...witty...smart...laid back. (WAAAY BACK!).. charming...and friendly as all get out....That was Guy.
It was a Family affair that day...with brother Mike, Guy, maybe even Nathan helping too...with Robert heroically jumping down into the ancient, homemade brick-lined septic tank and hosing down the last morsel in a job well done!
Always a happy place the Huber Farm...and Guy (was to me anyway) just that...THE GUY!
I did a lot of work for Guy over the years..and he was always the same old Guy...friendly, funny, respectful, and there was never a time I bumped into him that we didn’t have a good time....
Some people have that special “it”...Guy had “it” in spades...
I told my wife Gail different times what a great guy he was (Some pun intended!)...and now wish I could have gotten to know him even better...But...that will have to wait...for you see..The Good Lord had other plans for Guy...and for all of you that will miss that beautiful smile...well...you REALLY ought to see it now!
