Wolf Point’s Girls Handle Harlem
Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball squad enjoyed an excellent offensive night and posted a 72-46 league victory in Harlem on Saturday, Feb. 5.
After trailing by a 16-10 margin at the end of the opening quarter, the Wolves struck for the opening eight points of the second quarter on a three-point play by Jaylee Azure, a drive by Hamyanie Campbell and a three-pointer by Josie Kolstad.
Harlem’s Taya Trottier tied the game at 18-18, but Wolf Point responded with the next six points on baskets by Campbell, Sierra Hamilton and Katelyn MacDonald for a 24-18 advantage.
The Wolves ran off the final 11 points of the half on five points by MacDonald, a three-pointer by Kaylandra St. Marks, a drive by Kolstad and a free throw by Azure for a 35-20 lead.
Wolf Point kept rolling in the third quarter as baskets by J’Elle Garfield and Campbell opened the period.
Ahead by a 43-26 margin midway into the period, the Wolves tallied eight straight points on a hoop by Garfield off a pass from Campbell, four points by Kolstad and a basket off a rebound by Campbell.
Wolf Point led by a 53-32 margin at the end of the third quarter.
Wolf Point’s top scorers were Campbell and Kolstad with 15 points each. Also reaching double figures were St. Marks with 12 and Garfield with 10.
Rounding out the scoring were Hamilton with nine, MacDonald with seven and Azure with four.
Leading Harlem were Trottier with 23 and Chloe Messerly with 10 points.
The Wolves will head to Glendive on Friday, Feb. 11, and host Scobey on Saturday, Feb. 12.
The district tournament starts Feb. 17 in Glasgow.
