Candidate Ronning Talks To TEB, WPHS Candidate Ronning Talks To TEB, WPHS

New Wolf Point City Council member Lance Fourstar visited the Tribal Executive Board Feb. 10 with Democrat Penny Ronning, a candidate for Montana’s Second Congressional District. The pair demonstrated a scent preservation kit used in locating missing persons.

Ronning is a cofounder of the Yellowstone County Human Trafficking Task Force.

According to Fourstar, Ronning works with the Federal Bureau of Invesgtigagtion, Homeland Security and the White House, with an emphasis on Missing and Murdered Indigenous People. Ronning is an active community organizer and former Billings City Council member.

During her visit to Tribal government, Ronning discussed indicators of child trafficking, which she said includes signs physical abuse, fatigue, malnourishment, fearful behavior, a lack of identification and older, male companions who appear to be unrelated. She emphasized the difference between prostitution and human trafficking, especially of children.

Ronning also visited Tressa Welch’s Native Studies class at Wolf Point High School Thursday, where she covered similar topics with students. She handed out cards soliciting tips about missing persons. Ronning’s visit to the area concluded with a community feed at Fort Peck Community College’s Greet the Dawn Auditorium.
