Wolf Point High School senior Haidyn Raining Bird enjoys being a team player for the Wolves’ athletic teams.

Whether being a key player off the bench for Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball squad or serving as manager for the football program, Raining Bird has definitely been an asset during her senior year.

“The team chemistry is amazing,” Raining Bird said of this season’s girls’ basketball team. “We’re all pretty in sync.”

She holds the best threepoint shooting percentage on the team.

“Compare to last year, I’ve gotten a lot more playing time and have stepped up,” Raining Bird said.

She explained that she started playing basketball when she was only 5 years old. “My dad got us all into it,” she said.

Raining Bird is grateful that she has a dedicated “fan club” that has supported her throughout the season.

Her solid basketball season came after the sometimes thankless job of being the football team’s manager.

“The boys don’t always appreciate the manager a lot, but the coaches always stuck up for me,” Raining Bird said.

She was happy that she could watch her brother Hunter play, and she became good friends with several players.

During track season, she competes in weight events. Her goal is to qualify for state in the discus this spring.

“At practice, I’ve been having state throws,” she said.

Another activity for the senior is playing clarinet since the fifth grade for Wolf Point’s music program. She is looking forward to participating in music festivals this spring.

Her favorite class is serving as a teachers’ aide for Tiffani Darby. “It’s fun to help her when she needs it,” Raining Bird said.

She also enjoys visiting with her special needs’ brother at times during the period. “He’s one of the main reasons that I want to work with special needs’ kids,” she said.

Her favorite teacher is Douglas Evans “because of how challenging he is,” Raining Bird said.

She plans to attend college in either Bozeman or Missoula and study psychology with the goal of becoming a mental health therapist.

After attending elementary school in Frazer, she has gone to Wolf Point High School during the last three years.

“I love how everybody knows everybody and how friendly everybody is,” Raining Bird said.
