The Culbertson Cowgirls qualified for the Eastern C divisional tournament by stopping Savage, 33-16, during the District 2C tournament in Sidney on Saturday, Feb. 19.

The Cowgirls got their offensive attack going in the second half to defeat Savage and earn third place at the tournament.

A drive by Savage’s Teah Conradsen put the Warriors ahead 11-10 to open the third quarter, but Culbertson accounted for the contest’s next 13 points.

A pair of free throws by Perla Burciaga started the Cowgirls’ streak. Destiny Thompson, a sophomore, then hit a baseline shot and a three-pointer for a 17-11 advantage.

Makena Hauge went coast to coast for a basket and an eight-point lead. After Megan Granbois scored off a pass from Hauge, a 17-footer by Hauge increased Culbertson’s cushion to 23-11. The Cowgirls held a 23-13 advantage at the end of the quarter.

A three-pointer by Taylor Conradsen cut the margin to seven points to open the fourth quarter, but Thompson responded with a shot from the wing. Two free throws by Hauge and a three-pointer by Thompson produced a 30-16 margin with only 2:05 left.

Thompson and Hauge led the Cowgirls with 12 points each. Also scoring were Granbois with four, Burciaga with three and Ayden Ator with two points.

Granbois grabbed 10 rebounds. Hauge and Thompson each had seven rebounds.

Hauge finished with five assists and Ayden Ator came up with four steals.

Teah Conradsen scored 10 of Savage’s points. Also scoring were Taylor Conradsen with three, Nycole Prince with two and Karley McPherson with one. Leading the Warriors in rebounds was Teah Conradsen with seven.

Savage led by a 7-6 margin at the end of the first quarter.

The Cowgirls scored the final four points of the half on a three-pointer by Hauge and a free throw by Burciaga for a 10-9 advantage.

The divisional tournament begins Wednesday, March 2, in Sidney.
