The Lustre Christian Lions clinched a divisional berth by downing North Country, 57-20, at the District 3C boys’ basketball tournament on Thursday, Feb. 17.

The Lions got their offensive game rolling in the second half to earn the semi-final round victory.

Lustre kicked off the contest with seven of the first nine points on a basket off a rebound by Kolden Hoversland, a three-pointer by Elijah Lenihan and a hoop by Kaleb Hoversland.

North Country, behind the scoring of 6-5 senior Trey Johnson, battled back to 9-6, but a three-pointer by Kolden Hoversland ended the first quarter.

Two baskets by Kolden Hoversland increased the Lions’ lead to 18-6 midway into the second period.

The scoring of Aiden Albus kept the Mavericks close, but Lustre held a 20-11 halftime advantage.

Lustre then exploded for 20 points in the third quarter as Lenhihan and Jasiah Hambira helped the attack for a 40-18 cushion. The Lions outscored North Country, 17-2, in the final period.

Top scorers for Lustre were Kolden Hoversland with 20, Hambira with 13 and Lenihan with 11 points.

Also scoring were Kaleb Hoversland with four, Gabe Alves with three, Cayden Klatt with two and Alex Chen with two.

Top scorers for North Country were Albus with 12 and Johnson with six points.
