Wolves Lose Heart-breaker To Glasgow At District 2B Tournament
Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball season ended in heart-breaking fashion when the Wolves lost to Glasgow, 54-53, in loser-out action at the District 2B tournament in Glasgow on Friday, Feb. 18.
The game was decided when Bergen Miller hit three free throws with 0.4 seconds left. Miller went to the foul stripe after the Wolves were called for a foul on a threepoint shot attempt with Wolf Point ahead 53-51.
The outcome happened after the Wolves battled back from a 49-43 deficit midway into the fourth quarter.
Kraven Silk came up big down the stretch for Wolf Point. The junior connected on a three-pointer to cut the margin to 49-46 with 4:06 left.
After a shot inside by Glasgow’s Keigan Ingram, Silk hit a 14-footer for a 51-48 game.
A basket by Gaige Bushman off a pass from Jack Sprague put the margin down to one point with 2:06 remaining.
The Wolves gained possession at the 1:15 mark and worked patiently until Silk canned a three-pointer for a 53-51 lead with 26 seconds on the clock.
Glasgow called time-out with 13 seconds left. The Scotties missed one shot attempt and then Miller was fouled on another try.
Wolf Point’s top scorers were Silk with 18 and Gaige Bushman with 16 points.
Reaching double figures for Glasgow were Riley Smith with 13, Wyatt Babb with 12 and Ingram with 12 points.
After falling behind by a 30-24 half-time margin, Silk and Corey Martell led the Wolves back to 32-30.
Behind by a 45-39 score late in the quarter, the Wolves ended the period on a basket by Martell and a free throw by Bushman to close the margin to 45-42.
