Black Dog Joins Race For Sheriff

 

There are now five candidates in the race to elect the Roosevelt County sheriff.

William “Willy” Black Dog of Poplar filed for the sheriff’s position last week.

Incumbent Jason Frederick filed for re-election for the office in January. Other individuals who have filed include David Gonzales, Coretta Greybear and Brent Nygard.

Deadline to file for county elections is Monday, March 14, at 5 p.m. at the county clerk and recorder’s office.

The only other contested race in the county at this point is county commissioner where Edward L. Bach, Craig Karge and Robert Toavs have filed. The office is currently held by Duane Nygaard.

The primary election is scheduled for June 7. The general election is June 8. Others who have filed include county attorney Frank Piocos, clerk and recorder/public administrator Cheryl A. Hansen, justice of the peace for post no. 1 Traci Harada and treasurer/accessor Betty Romo.
