Ice Yacht Summit Planned At Fort Peck Lake

Organizer Sean Heavey told the Northern Plains Independent that dozens of ice boat racers are coming to the area to participate in the inaugural Hard Water Summit, originally scheduled for March 14-18. Dates for the event are shifting with weather conditions on the lake, which currently has snow blanketing ice in places. “It snowed more than we expected the other day,” said Heavey. “But it’s supposed to warm up a bit and the snow should melt.”
The international DN Ice Yacht Racing Association championship was held at the lake in January 2020 and approximately 10 boats attended a practice event at the lake last February. Heavey said the summit had over 40 registered participants at last count.
“This is an event where sailors will have a chance to get together, talk shop and enjoy the unique beauty of Fort Peck Lake,” said Heavey.
Heavey said organizers will set new dates for the summit March 17. Check montana. iceboat.org for more information and visit Heavey’s Facebook page for real time info on the event.
