As we move out of ….

As we move out of a pandemic-dominated world, it is important to consider our mental health. The past two years have been challenging. Now, we’re moving toward a new normal. Studies show that people of all ages are struggling with anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. Here, we’ll talk about some self-care tips that can help you achieve an element of balance in your life.
First, we all need physical activity. Ideally, this would be time spent outside. The brain receives positive messages when we are active and being outdoors heightens the stimulation of our mind. This allows us to let go of negative thoughts and become more aware of the world around us. Just 15-20 minutes a day of physical activity can be enough to give you a brain boost!
Next, it is important to limit screen time. Yes, we think about this for our kids. But, adults need screenfree time, too. Make a habit of putting your phone down during meals, for example. Take some of that outside time and make it device-free. There are even apps for your phone that help you schedule time away from your phone.
Social self-care is another key element of mental health. Humans are social creatures but the pandemic and our response to it sometimes made that dicult. It is possible to integrate our need for physical activity with social time that is also device free. Take a walk or hike or bike ride with a family member or friend.
Schedule a coee meeting or date and just enjoy con versation with someone else for an hour. When we receive social stimulation in a positive way, it makes our mind happy, too!
Finally, it is essential that we get enough sleep each night. Teens need 9-11 hours of sleep. Adults need 7-8 hours. Think about the sleep you are getting and make getting a good night’s rest a regular habit. This will decrease irritability and increase productivity.
Mental health is important — and it is important that we all take steps to give our minds the care they need. These simple steps can help everyone live a happier, healthier life.
