The 57th annual Lustre Schmeckfest was held Friday, March 25, with 640 people attending. They came from Wolf Point, Glasgow, Bloomfield, Peerless, Lustre and farther off.

Guests came from Minnesota, Texas, Pennsylvania and, of course, Lustre Christian High School’s international students would qualify as having come the farthest.

It is always a special occasion to welcome visitors who come for the first time, whether they are somehow connected to faculty and staff, or are part of local families, coming home, or new to our eastern Montana and want to experience this evening event.

The volunteer steering committee of Mr. and Mrs. Curt Neufeld, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Forest, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Reddig were instrumental in ensuring a successful event.

The craftsmanship of local artists, quilters, furniture makers and donated items from area businessmen are so much appreciated.

The program was emceed by Elijah Lenihan and included a quartet of trumpet and saxophone instrumentalists (Lustre Christian High School students), a mother/ son duet (the Lacocks), Sarah Brown and her girls playing a piano trio called Triple

Dip, a poem recited by band/ choir director Michael Butler of The Dude Wrangler and an excellent EMB Men’s Chorus number called Leave it at the Cross.

Displays included Lustre Grade School’s class art, baking and crafts.

An online auction continued into Saturday.

The community was informed of the death of Dorothy Schmitt, who died March 21 at Valley View Home in Glasgow. Her funeral will be Saturday, April 2, at 11 a.m. at the Lustre Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church.
