Two Small Fires Hit BVFD, Lambert Talks Fire Danger
Bainville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Lyle Lambert reported two small fires requiring attention from the department Saturday, March 26. Both were extinguished without incident, but Lambert said the fires highlight fire safety concerns moving into to another hot, dry year.
According to Lambert, an oil workover rig caught fire a little after noon approximately five miles north of Bainville on Highway 405. Five trucks from BVFD responded to the call, along with one truck from the Culbertson Volunteer Fire Department. The fire was out and trucks were headed home a few hours later.
BVFD was called to a grass fire between the highway and the BNSF mainline tracks four miles west of Bainville. Four trucks responded.
“It’s that time of year again,” said Lambert. The chief cautioned area residents to be careful about sparks and flammable materials as the season develops with below level precipitation on the long term horizon.
“In addition with dry fuels from last year and no precipitation in the last several days, critical fire weather conditions may be possible,” said a March 28 social media post from the National Weather Service Glasgow.
