Lady Wolves Score Victories On Tennis Courts


The Wolf Point tennis squad began its campaign with action in Chinook at Friday, April 1, and at home against Baker on Saturday, April 2.
Weather conditions were cold and windy in Chinook.
“With only three returners and the rest playing their very first matches, I am extremely happy with their effort. Varsity Mahala MacDonald, Hamyanie Campbell, Laykin Cantrell and Claire Kinzie all played very hard and got better as the day went along,” coach Dan Horsmon said.
MacDonald lost her match by a 3-6, 3-6, final. Campbell dropped her match in a tie-breaker.
Cantrell came up short, 3-6, 3-6, and 3-6, 4-6. Kinzie fell by scores of 4-6, 6-4, 5-7, and 3-6, 3-6.
Kaleah Miller-Toves earned a 6-4, 6-4, victory.
Also dropping singles’ matches were Kaylee Johnson, Arianna Mee and Jocelyn Williams.
The Wolves played very well in doubles’ action. “The girls just kept getting better,” Horsmon said.
The Johnson/Miller-Toves team won by a 7-6, 6-3 final.
MacDonald/Campbell lost their match in three sets. Savannah Wozniak/Jaycen Williams dropped two matches. Mee/Jocelyn Williams fell by a 3-6, 3-6 final.
The Wolves then competed at home against Baker on Saturday, April 2. “The girls improved so much from the day before, lots of close matches,” Horsmon said. “Mahala MacDonald played two great matches against state qualifiers from last year. She came up short, but Mahala played really well.”
MacDonald lost one match, 3-6, 5-7, and another match, 6-7, 6-7.
Campbell showed a lot of heart but lost her matches 6-7, 3-6, and 6-7, 6-7.
Cantrell continued to improve and dropped two close matches. Kinzie played with a lot of hustle and lost by a 3-6, 3-6 final.
During doubles’ action, Jo h n s o n / M i l l e r-Tove s posted two victories by scores of 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, and 6-4, 6-4.
Campbell/MacDonald scored a 7-6, 7-5 victory.
Cantrell/Kinzie won their match by a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 final.
Wozniak/Jaycen Williams went 1-2 for the day.
Mee/Jocelyn Williams also posted a 1-2 record.
The Wolves will host Forsyth at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 8, and then travel to Baker on Saturday, April 9.
