Jackson, Higgins Seek School Board District 1 Seat

Ronald Jackson and Keith Higgins are seeking a oneyear Wolf Point school board position for District 1. Jackson was appointed to the board earlier this year.

The following are responses from the candidates to a questionnaire.

Why did you decide to run for a trustee position?

Higgins: “I’ve been looking for a way to become more involved in the community. I have two young children and the trustee position seemed like the best way to make an immediate impact for them and the community.”

Jackson: “I was on the school board for 17 and a half years before. I felt like I did a good job. I’m now retired and have more time. I love working for kids. Everything I do is for the kids. I fight for kids so they have a good education.”

Why do you feel you are a good candidate to serve on Wolf Point’s School Board?

Higgins: “I feel like I’m a good candidate because I have a vested interest in how Wolf Point Schools run. I’m also a good problem solver and critical thinker.”

Jackson: “My experience on the board. I know the rules and regulations and want to help kids and teachers.”

What are you the most impressed about regarding the Wolf Point School District?

Higgins: “Honestly, I don’t know enough about the inner workings of the school district to make a fair assessment of the situation at this point.”

Jackson: “I graduated from Wolf Point. I played for all the sports teams and we went to State a couple of times. Our teams have always been up there. Not everything is sports minded. We’ve had a good band and have good grades. We need to get all the kids to graduate.”

In which areas do you feel the school district could improve?

Higgins: “I’ll refer to my previous answer.”

Jackson: “We need to improve on our security and stop bullying of our kids. We could add a couple (resource officer) Corey Reums at schools. You need more eyes out there. Bullying is one of the most serious problems.”

What do you feel are the school district’s biggest challenges in order to have a successful future?

Higgins: “The same problems that are facing most other areas of the country. Poverty and parental involvement being the most important.”

Jackson: “We all need to get along. We all need to agree to disagree. We need to work together.”
