Rosendale Blasts Biden Admin For Fertilizer Prices
U.S. Rep. Matt Rosendale, R-Mont., signed onto a letter on Tuesday, April 5, penned by Congressman Tom Emmer R-Minn., which was sent to President Biden, with concerns over the record-high fertilizer prices that are impacting Montana’s farmers this spring planting season. Affordable and reliable fertilizer is crucial to our agricultural community, and price increases will have a harmful effect on profitability and consumers.
“Since January 2021, the prices of key fertilizer sources have substantially increased as follows: anhydrous ammonia (by 203 percent); urea (by 141 percent); liquid nitrogen (by 162 percent); monoammonium phosphate (by 74 percent); potash (by 125 percent); and farm diesel (by 95 percent),” the letter states. “Ongoing supply-chain bottlenecks and the rising cost of energy are among the factors sending fertilizer prices soaring, and disruptions stemming from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will only compound the problem. As a result, Americans will pay more at restaurants, grocery store and elsewhere.”
“The Biden administration’s failed economic policies are causing serious supply chain disruptions and harming our agricultural communities — leaving Montana farmers and ranchers to pay higher prices for essential products. Agriculture is the backbone of our state, and astronomical fertilizer costs put the livelihoods of thousands of Montanans in jeopardy,” Rosendale said. “The Biden administration must immediately act to end the ongoing supply chain crisis and inflation and ensure farmers are able to focus on producing crops for the American people, instead of worrying about their bottom line.”
