Clean Sweep anti-litter efforts are winding up for spring. Barbara Olson told the Northern Plains Independent that the landfill will be accepting clean sweep trash at no charge April 18-30. The landfill will also be open on Sunday, April 24, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring your landfill card if you have one.

Appliances requiring freon removal will be charged a $10 removal fee. Contractor/construction waste will be charged regular rates.

Bagged trash and yard waste can be left curbside (not in alleys) for city crews to pick-up on from April 25-29. Organizers ask that you keep yard waste separate from metal items and bag your leaves.

They also ask that participants help city crews with the extra workload by taking trash to the landfill on open days, if possible.

The Wolf Point Beautification Committee sponsors the annual Clean Sweep Days in April. This year, WPBC is encouraging individuals, organizations and businesses to choose a public area to clean. Since we have had so many windy days, the committee recommends looking at the long-range forecast and then choosing a day and time that works best for your group. The WPBC is currently coordinating Clean Sweep efforts with the Fort Peck Tribal Enterprise, which is scheduling clean-up days in each community across the Fort Peck Reservation. Tribal Enterprise has scheduled their Wolf Point clean-up days for April 26-27. According to Tina Magnum, Tribal Enterprise crews will collect large items in the alleys of Fort Peck Housing Authority areas, not in the streets as the Wolf Point. They will also place roll-off dumpsters near the playground in the west housing areas and another at the corner of Third Avenue South and Idaho Street in the south side housing area during that time.

According to Olson, WPBC is an all-volunteer organization with one goal: to keep Wolf Point clean and inviting for residents and visitors. The Beautification Committee volunteers rely on ongoing help from individuals, organizations and businesses to achieve that goal, and those entities have always come through. With all-volunteer help, the WPBC members routinely clean litter and weeds, and plant and maintain flowers pots along U.S. Highway 2.

“The WPBC encourages all Wolf Point residents to help each other tackle the garbage throughout the town,” said Olson. “Those who are able can help their friends and neighbors clean up their yards and haul larger items for collection. By working together, we can continue to keep Wolf Point a clean, inviting community.”

WPBC has a Facebook page where individuals or groups can post the area they plan to clean. They may also call Julie D’ambrosio at the Wolf Point Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture office at 406-653-2012.
