CN County Cupboard Update
By James Walling
The County Cupboard food bank in Culbertson has received some looked-for financial assistance aimed at combating increased traffic and grocery prices. Ashlee Anderson told the Community News that three donors have shored up the food bank’s operations with considerable donations. Culbertson’s Oilfield Waste Logistics contributed $1,000, with Hopa Mountain (Bozeman) contributing $7,500 and an anonymous donor bringing in another $5,000.
Anderson said in March that the food bank has been seeing increased visits and expenses. She said her records showed over 65 percent of patrons at the pantry in recent months have come from the Fort Peck Reservation. Distribution issues and closed doors at other food banks in the area may have contributed to increased need.
The County Cupboard is a non-profit, 501c3 organization and donations are deductible. The group’s mission is focused on ending hunger in Roosevelt County. Area residents participate on a volunteer basis, with 100 percent of donations going towards grocery distribution.
Local volunteers staff the pantry weekly out of the County Building located on Main Street in Culbertson every other Tuesday. The next distribution date is May 24.
Donations can be taken to First Community Bank or mailed to PO Box 484, Culbertson, MT 59218.
