Next Mural Project Planned At Zen Medicine Next Mural Project Planned At Zen Medicine

After near completion of the mural at Medicine Creek Caregivers, two local artists and the Bigger Sky Kids are now starting work on a mural at Zen Medicine.

The large buffalo head mural, at Medicine Creek Caregivers at 315 1st Ave, is visible from Highway 2. Work began in May and will wrap up this week.

Designer Cathryn McIntyre was assisted by painters from her studio art class at Bigger Sky Kids. Included were Brayden Bearcub, Brooklyn Turcotte, Dana Buckles, Hope Pipestem and Thomas Moudree.

Also participating were third-grader Rachel Pipestem, who plans to join the art class next year when she becomes old enough, and Jenna Zemliska, McIntyre’s former student from Glasgow.

McIntyre noted that students from Bigger Sky Kids performed a lot of the detailed work on the mural at Medicine Creek.

“The intent is that the students who have been working with me are now being connected with another local artist,” McIntyre said.

Wolf Point artist Chelysa Owens-Cyr is coordinating the mural at Zen Medicine. The two artists were at the site on Friday, June 9, to prepare for the project.

Owens-Cyr said the eightfoot high mural that she designed will feature wolves, flowers and other scenery. The plan is for the project to be completed by the end of June.

“Bigger Sky Kids took two murals on in anticipation of the 100th Stampede to add to the atmosphere and excitement,” McIntyre said.

Both projects were supported by funds from the Western Bank of Wolf Point Legacy Fund and from building owners Al Pipe and Don Kurokawa.

In other news, Bigger Sky Kids was honored to receive a $10,000 grant in May from the Margaret T. Biddle Foundation of the Montana Community Foundation.

The grant, which came at the recommendation of MCF staff, is designated for operating support. It will underwrite a number of improvements long on B!SK’s wish list.

Bigger Sky Kids is currently on summer break. Programming will resume in the fall. For information, visit biggerskykids.org.
