Knierim Scholarships Now Available
Applications are being sent out for the Frederick and Bernice Knierim scholarship, which are for area youth who have graduated from a high school in Valley, Sheridan, Daniels or Roosevelt counties and have completed at least one year of education after high school.
As the colleges are now releasing grades for the spring semester, all applicants must send their grades to be eligible for this award. Applications may be obtained from Pat Knierim at Box 29, Glasgow, or by contacting the law office. Applications are due by July 15 and will be awarded in time for the beginning of fall semester.
Dr. FM Knierim and his wife, Bernice, were drawn to the Glasgow area by the building of Fort Peck Dam in the late 1930s. Dr. Knierim was one of the first physicians hired by the project to look after the men, and he continued that care after World War II with a public clinic for treatment of eyes, ears and nose as a specialist.
Miss Carkeet came to Glasgow as a school teacher for the growing population of working families and taught the early grades when class size sometimes numbered 75! Dr. Knierim maintained a medical practice for many years and served as chief of staff at FMDH for more than 40 years.
