Hearings Take Place In District Court

Three hearings took place in district court under Judge David J. Cybulski on Wednesday, Aug. 16.

Matthew Lavelle Harris was sentenced for two charges. He was originally facing seven charges including attempted escape in Roosevelt County. Along with the felony charge of attempted escape, there were two felony criminal mischief charges. The other four charges were for misdemeanor criminal mischief.

Based on a plea agreement, Harris received a five-year sentence, all suspended, for attempted escape and a fiveyear sentence, all suspended, for criminal mischief. The sentences are to run consecutively. He was also ordered to pay $2,000 to the county for restitution. He was given credit for 288 days served. The other charges were dismissed.

Cybulski advised Harris that he needs to get in a program to make sure he doesn’t re-offend.

In another hearing, James Trevor Brown made not guilty pleas to the charges of fourth offense driving under the influence, criminal endangerment, fleeing or eluding a police officer, driving with lack of liability insurance and exceeding the speed limit.

The offenses allegedly took place on June 15 in Roosevelt County.

An omnibus hearing was scheduled for Sept. 26. A trial was scheduled for Nov. 16.

Brown received a reduction of bond from $200,000 to $2,000. It was noted that he has a family at home and has lived in Wolf Point since 2012.

Deputy county attorney Thomas Bleicher argued that bond shouldn’t be reduced below $100,000 because of public safety.

Cybulski granted Brown a bond reduction to $2,000. Brown needs to wear a monitoring bracelet. Chelsey Renae Nelson made not guilty pleas for aggravated driving under the influence, criminal endangerment and driving without liability insurance.

An omnibus hearing was set for Sept. 13. A trial was scheduled for Nov. 16.
