Governor Greg Gianforte proposed a property tax rebate for Montanans for their primary residence and signed it into law in March 2023. The rebate provides Montanans up to $675 of property tax relief on a primary residence in both 2023 and 2024.
To qualify for the property tax rebate, you must have owned a Montana residence for at least seven months in 2022, lived in that Montana residence for at least seven months in 2022, been billed property taxes on this residence and paid property taxes on this residence.
Taxpayers must claim their 2022 rebate online at GETMYREBATE. MT.GOV or by paper form by Oct. 1.
Roosevelt County Aging Services will be providing assistance to seniors who would like to file the online form. What you will need: the physical address of your principal residence in 2022, the Geocode of your principal residence in 2022, the amount of property taxes paid as reflected on the 2022 principal residence’s property tax bill, the names and Social Security Numbers of you, your spouse and your dependents as reflected on your 2022 Montana Individual Income Tax Return or federal income tax return, bank account information or the mailing address where you would like your rebate sent and, if available, the Letter ID on the Montana Property Tax Rebate letter sent by Montana Department of Revenue in August.
Claims filed online will be issued within 30 days of filing the claim and paper claims may take up to 90 days to process.
