Amtrak Ridership Increased During 2022
Although ridership was improved from the previous two years, Amtrak’s passengers in 2022 weren’t still as many as pre-COVID years.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Transportation statistics, ridership in Montana during 2022 was 80,970. That figure surpasses the amount of Amtrak travelers in the state for 2020 (65,746) and 2021 (67,066).
Ridership in Montana for the years 2016-2019 exceeded 120,000 in each of those years. The total ridership in the state for those years included 123,855 in 2016, 125,639 in 2017, 121,692 in 2018 and 121,350 in 2019.
Annual ticket revenue for the Wolf Point station in 2022 was $339,391. Annual station ridership in 2022 was 2,911 passengers.
Ridership in North Dakota for 2022 was 60,709. That compares to 62,253 in 2020 and 44,950 in 2021. Ridership in 2019 for the state was 101,119.
Amtrak conducted building improvements to the Wolf Point station during 2021. The project included: demolition of the concrete platform; replacing in kind with an ADA-compliant, 650foot long, 12-foot wide concrete platform; upgrades on the platform featured new signage, lighting and the relocation of a wheelchair lift enclosure; exterior improvements around the station building including upgrades to the accessible parking area, connection to the public street and ADA-compliant walkways between the parking and station building; interior work consisted of new entry door accessibilities with automatic door openers to and from the station; men’s and women’s restroom upgrades for ADA compliance; and minor modifications to the lobby including new seating layout and adjustments to fire pull stations for ADA compliance.
