A total of 19 Wolf Point High School students took part in the National Honor Society induction ceremony in the school’s auditorium on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

New members inducted were Joli Beston, Azalei Ackerman, Ali Corpron, Ameliya Doney, Chase Adams, Isabella Sanchez, Victoria Wozniak and Logan Wolff.

The new members joined students Kaylee Johnson, Kylie Rodenberg, Jacob Lien, Nevaeh Graham, Charlie Page, Jack Kolstad, Del Eymard, Ryan Schumacher, Isabelle Crawford Bleazard, Sierra Hamilton and Kaleah Miller-Toves. Leslie Larson is the program’s advisor.

Taking part in the candle lighting ceremony were Johnson, Lien, Eymard, Graham and Schumacher. They stressed the four pillars of National Honor Society including scholarship, service, leadership and character.

CoCo Villaluz served as the program’s keynote speaker. She serves as the health equity manager for the American Indian Cancer Foundation. Her focus includes the restoration of traditional tobacco and cultural lifeways as a way to create change.

Villaluz explained that she took a non-traditional route on her way to success.

“No matter what path you take, it’s the right path for you,” Villaluz said to students.

She had each of Wolf Point’s National Honor Society students answer the questions of what kind of role model do you want to be and what values are important to you?

Although she has lived in a various of places including Minneapolis, Guam, North Dakota and South Dakota, the Wolf Point High School graduate said she wanted to return home to this small but vibrant community.

She asked students to keep a gratitude journal for what they are thankful for each day.
