Speech, Drama Team Enjoys Large Turnout
After a standout speech and drama season last school year, the program is aiming for even better results this time around.
The team started practice on Oct. 2, with 24 students participating.
“It’s about eight more than last year,” the team’s coach Jacob Boysun said of the turnout. “This is one of the largest teams that Wolf Point has ever had.”
Returning participants include senior Del Eymard who earned fifth place at last year’s state meet in dramatic oral interpretation. He is going to compete in a humorous field this year.
Other returning students who placed at state last year are Ryan Schumacher, Cole Boysun, Ellianuna Ryan, Tavian Bell and Dante’ Dionne.
“I’m surprised to be sure,” Jacob Boysun said of the turnout. “I thought last year was a big team. This is neat.”
Seniors on the squad are Eymard, Schumacher, Walker Harmon, Dionne, Jacob Lien and Francis Good Track.
The team’s assistant coach is Jody Richards.
Schumacher has a good idea why the turnout has been so good for the program during the last two years.
“Boysun is one of the best coaches in Montana,” Schumacher explained.
Last year, the Wolves placed third at the Class B/C divisional meet.
“I want everybody to at least place at divisional,” Boysun said. He is hopeful that Wolf Point can place in the top two at divisional this season.
The team will open its season at the Glasgow Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 4.
Another highlight of the season is expected to be the Billings Central meet held at the MSU Billings campus. The state meet is scheduled in Choteau on Jan. 26-27.
