Lady Wolves Lose Home Finale Against Strong Baker Squad
The Wolf Point Wolves ended their regular season with a home loss against a strong Baker team on Saturday, Oct. 21. The Wolves fell by a final of 18-25, 14-25, 6-25.
In the first set, the Wolves gained a 5-4 lead on a kill by Sierra Hamilton, but Baker scored the next seven points with kills by Madison O’Connor leading the way.
Kills by Hamilton pulled the Wolves back to 15-10. After Baker’s Hope Gonsioroski and Kayl Hadley scored kills, Wolf Point’s Keeley Blount-Henderson accounted for a kill to cut the margin to 17-11.
Kaleah Miller-Toves hit a kill to keep the Wolves close at 23-17, but Baker earned a 25-18 victory.
The second set featured excellent play from both squads, and Wolf Point grabbed a 5-2 lead on a spike by Gabrielle Fourbear and an ace by Joli Beston.
After Baker moved ahead, an ace by Azalei Ackerman closed the margin to 11-9. The Spartans then struck for six straight points including three kills by Gonsioroski.
Highlights for the Wolves included an ace by Kylie Rodenberg and kills by Miller- Toves as the Wolves fought back to 21-13. An ace by Kyai Hadley and a kill by Hayl Hadley helped Baker end the second set.
In the third set, a tip by Kashlyn Speak Thunder cut Baker’s lead to 7-3.
Baker accounted for nine straight points during the set to gain a 22-5 advantage. After a kill by Hamilton, Baker scored the final three points.
The District 2B tournament begins Thursday, Oct. 26, in Glasgow. The Wolves will play either Malta or Poplar at 10 a.m. on Friday.
