Poplar Falls To Malta At Tourney

The Poplar Indians enjoyed a great start but lost against Malta in the first round of the District 2B volleyball tournament held in Glasgow on Thursday, Oct. 26.

The first set was even until a pair of kills by Braelyn Nordwick put the Indians into the lead. Two aces by EmmaRae Martell produced a 13-9 advantage.

Poplar kept rolling as kills by Nordwick and Kessee Erickson increased the margin to 17-10.

Ahead by a 20-15 margin, the Indians scored on kills by Cammie Martell and Nordwick for a 22-16 lead. Hard hits by Rikki Belton and Nordwick gave Poplar a 23-18 lead. After a kill by Nordwick put the margin at 24-19, Malta scored the next two points for a 24-21 game.

An outstanding dig by Nina Escarcega accounted for the winning point in the 25-21 first set victory.
