Lady Wolves Take Fourth Place At Divisional Tournament
The Wolf Point Wolves claimed fourth place at the Northern B divisional volleyball tournament after a solid showing in Malta on Thursday, Nov. 2, and Friday, Nov. 3.
The Wolves were able to keep their season alive with a dramatic five-set victory over Conrad on Friday afternoon. Wolf Point won the match by a 12-25, 26-24, 19-25, 25-16, 1614, final.
After dropping the first set, the Wolves gained a 13-7 advantage in the second set on a block by Joli Beston and kills by Sierra Hamilton. A tip by Hamilton and a kill by Gabrielle Fourbear kept Wolf Point ahead 15-12.
The set was deadlocked at 20-20 until a pair of kills by Hamilton produced a 2321 lead. After the Cowgirls tied the score at 23-23, a tip by Hamilton put the Wolves back ahead.
With the score at 24-24, Wolf Point struck for the final two points on a kill by Fourbear and a serve by Azalei Ackerman.
Conrad jumped out to a 2011 advantage in the third set en route to the 25-19 victory.
Down two sets to one, the Wolves gained a 12-3 lead in the fourth set with the serving of Kylie Rodenberg and Ackerman among the highlights.
A hard kill by Hamilton put Wolf Point ahead by a 20-9 advantage. After Conrad closed the margin to 23-16, the Wolves scored the final two points of the set on a kill by Fourbear and serve by Lauren Rodenberg.
In the fifth and deciding set, Conrad led by an 8-7 margin but a kill by Hamilton tied the score. The Wolves then tallied three points on K. Rodenberg’s service for an 11-8 lead.
Fourbear connected for a kill to give Wolf Point a 13-9 advantage. A back-row spike by Hamilton put the Wolves up by a 14-11 margin.
After Conrad tied the score at 14-14, Wolf Point accounted for the last two points on a back-row kill by Hamilton and a kill by Fourbear.
Wolf Point’s season came to an end against Fairview by an 18-25, 25-27, 12-25, final on Friday night.
In the first set, the Wolves kept the score close early on the net play of Keeley Blount-Henderson and Joli Beston.
Strong kills by Fairview’s Macy Tjelde led the Warriors to a 15-9 advantage and they took the first set by a 25-18 final.
Kills by Hamilton and Blount-Henderson produced a 4-3 lead in the second set and a block by Kashlyn Speak Thunder put the Wolves up by a 9-8 margin.
Wolf Point stayed in the lead, 18-16, on a kill by Hamilton, but Fairview tied the set at 19-19. After a block by Beston put the Wolves ahead 22-21, Fairview gained a 24-22 advantage. A spike by Speak Thunder produced a 25-24 lead for the Wolves, but the Warriors accounted for the last three points including a kill by Tjelde.
The Wolves fell behind by a 12-4 margin in the third set. With the score at 19-11, Fairview struck for the next three points.
Wolf Point battled back to 22-12 before Fairview ended the match.
Fairfield defeated Fairview in the divisional championship match. The two teams will play at the Class B state tournament in Bozeman starting on Thursday, Nov. 9. Fairview defeated Choteau in the second-place match.
