Forecast Calls For Above Average Temps
The National Weather Service provided a weather ready briefing for eastern Montana and northern Wyoming last week.
The seasonal outlook for December through February calls for above average temperatures and below precipitation.
Scott Rozanski, meteorologist, cautioned that the above average temperatures doesn’t necessarily mean for the entire period. For example, one month could be above average for high temperatures and another could be below average, but overall it’s above average for the three-month period.
The outlook for December calls for an equal chance of above or below average temperatures. The forecast is for below precipitation for northeastern Montana.
For the Dec. 5-11 period, much of Montana trends to have a little above normal temperatures and precipitation near normal.
During the month of November, most of the state experienced above normal temperatures except temperatures were below normal in the Sidney area.
Precipitation was above normal, with a snow storm at the end of October helping with moisture.
For the year, Glasgow has 95 percent of its normal precipitation while Billings has 125 percent.
Snowfall during a storm at the end of October included 17.5 inches north of Jordan and 14.5 inches in Circle.
“Everybody seems to share in the wealth this year for snowfall,” Rozanski said.
