Lustre Tips Off Season With 78-18 Victory Over MonDak
Lustre’s boys’ basketball team looked like a powerhouse as the Lions scored the first 23 points of the second quarter and knocked off MonDak, 78-18, to start the season at the Class C Tip-off Classic in Glasgow on Friday, Dec. 1.
The Lions opened the contest with the first nine points on a 14-footer by Cayden Klatt, a three-pointer by Terran Joseph, a steal and dunk by Johnslee Pierre and another fast-break hoop by Pierre.
After MonDak’s Elliot Rudningen accounted for the next four points, the Lions ran off six straight points later in the quarter on a drive by Diek Olfert, a rebound by Pierre and a basket by Cam Reddig.
Lustre Christian ended the opening quarter with the final eight points on four points by Nathan Fast and four points by Ife Aniobi for a 27-7 advantage.
The Lions, using full-court defensive pressure, took even further control in the second quarter. A three-pointer by Klatt and a pair of free throws by Pierre opened the period. Another three-pointer by Klatt and a dunk by Pierre put the score at 37-7.
After Joseph fired in a three-pointer, Pierre became a force with the next six points. A pair of free throws by Klatt and a steal and layup by Olfert put the margin at 50-7.
MonDak’s Rudningen hit a basket at the buzzer to put the half-time score at 50-9.
The Lions accounted for 17 points in the third quarter for a 67-12 lead.
Pierre led the Lions with 20 points. Olfert scored 11 and Klatt added 10. Also scoring for Lustre were Joseph with nine, Aniobi with eight, Fast with six, Prestyn Klatt with six, Cam Reddig with three, Eyosias Ayalew with two, Clay Reddig with two and Brian Guedes with one.
