Lustre Downs Froid/Lake, 67-42
In a game featuring two Eastern C boys’ basketball powerhouses, Lustre Christian fought off Froid/Lake, 67-42, during the Scobey Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 9.
The Red Hawks were very competitive in the contest’s first half as a three-pointer by Mason Dethman pulled Froid/Lake to 20-16 with 4:08 left in the half.
Lustre, however, responded with the final 12 points including three-pointers by Johnslee Pierre and Prestyn Klatt. A turnaround shot by Byron Ewing put the Lions up 32-16 at the half.
Lustre struck for the opening four points of the third quarter on hoops by Pierre and Terran Joseph. After Dethman canned a three-pointer, Lustre increased the margin to 41-19 on a three-pointer by Clay Reddig and a basket off a steal by Joseph.
The Red Hawks gained some momentum back on a three-point play by Nate Stentoft and an inside basket by Dethman to close the margin to 50-28.
Lustre ended the third quarter with a 53-29 advantage and moved ahead 57-29 early in the fourth period. The Red Hawks ran off the next 11 points including six by Dethman to get as close as 57-40 with 3:04 remaining.
Lustre’s top scorers were Pierre with 26, Joseph with 13 and Ewing with 10 points.
Also scoring for the Lions were Cayden Klatt with six, Ife Aniobi with four, Clay Reddig with three, P. Klatt with three and Cam Reddig with two.
Leading the Red Hawks were Dethman with 26 and Stentoft with 12 points. Joseph Robertson and Daniel Forizs scored two points each.
The Lions jumped out to a 10-6 lead, but the scoring of Dethman kept the Red Hawks close. After Ewing scored off a rebound, Dethman hit a three-pointer to cut the gap to 14-13 at the end of the quarter.
Two baskets by Pierre and a pair of free throws by Joseph put Lustre ahead by a 20-13 margin early in the third quarter.
