Escarcega Wins Title In Great Falls

Poplar’s Angelina Escarcega earned first-place honors at the Great Falls CMR Holiday Classic during the weekend.

Escarcega won a 7-2 decision over Simms’ Hayley Petersen in the title match at 107 pounds. Escarcega pinned Corvallis’ Kaelynn Vanderpool in 2:24 during the semi-final round. Escarcega pinned Billings Skyview’s Danyka Doll in 23 seconds during the quarter-final round.

Blake Follette placed sixth at 114 pounds. She won four matches on pins during the tournament.

Thea Weeks and Alara Parshall each won two matches on pins.

In the boys’ tournament, Poplar’s Navarjo Escarcega earned fifth place against tough wrestling competition.

N. Escarcega won by a 5-1 decision over Laure’s Nathaniel Hill in the fifth-place match at 138 pounds.

N. Escarcega won on a pin in the quarter-final round but lost a 5-2 decision in the semi-final round match.

Craig Berg at 170 pounds and Rollen Spotted Bull at 285 also won matches during the tournament.
