New County Attorney To Begin Duties Feb. 20
Roosevelt County commissioners agreed on a starting date for their new county attorney during their meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
Attorney Theresa Diekhans is scheduled to begin her duties in Roosevelt County on Feb. 20.
Commissioner Robert Toavs made the motion and noted that the decision follows Judge Michael G. Moses’ orders made in late October.
Commissioner Gordon Oelkers added, “It just clarifies what we’ve been doing.”
The motion passed unanimously. The county commissioners also approved a resolution to put on the ballot a continuation of the 7 mill public safety levy.
The levy, which needs approval every four years, provides about $228,618 for the sheriff’s office.
“It’s very important for the safety of Roosevelt County,” Oelkers said.
Commissioners accepted the resignation of Amber Disney from the fair board. Commissioners approved the appointment of Chelsie Flinn of north Poplar to the fair board.
The promotion raises of clerk and recorder employees Vicky Boysun and Janice Kegley were discussed. Boysun is being appointed to the open deputy position.
Toavs said he has a difficult time with 10 percent pay increases in the office. He said pay increases have amounted to $15,000 in the office this year.
The increases are in the office’s budget. “It’s a lot to do with responsibilities,” Oelkers said.
The increases were approved by a 2-1 margin with Toavs voting against.
Josh Hutchinson was hired as a new employee for the clerk and recorder’s office.
