Poplar Boys Drop Contest Against Scotties
The Glasgow Scotties accounted for a solid first half en route to a 75-67 league boys’ basketball victory in Poplar on Friday, Feb. 2.
A three-pointer from way out at the buzzer by Myles Yoakam put the Scotties ahead 20-14 to end the first quarter.
The Indians quickly tied the game on consecutive three-pointers by Delray Lilley and Kaniel Ricker.
After Glasgow gained a 23-20 advantage on a free throw by Cade Hudyma and a put-back by Wyatt Babb, Poplar grabbed a 24-23 lead on fast-break hoops by Ricker and Lilley. Babb then hit a three-pointer, but a drive by Lilley tied the game at 26-26.
The Scotties struck for 10 of the final 12 points of the half for a 36-28 lead. A pair of three-pointers by Nicolas Solorzano highlighted the streak.
Lilley connected on three three-pointers for the Indians during the third quarter to pull Poplar as close as six points. Glasgow led 53-47 at the end of the period.
A drive by Hudyma increased the margin to 67-54 with 4:14 remaining in the District 2B contest, but Lilley kept Poplar’s hopes alive with six straight points to cut the gap to 67-60.
After the Indians missed on two three-point attempts, Hudyma scored four straight points for a 71-60 margin with only 1:31 remaining.
Lilley exploded for 43 points to lead the Indians during the contest.
Also scoring for Poplar were Geordy Medicine Cloud with seven, Kameron Reum with seven, Ricker with six, Walker Burshia with two and Cetan Growing Thunder with two points.
