Poplar Ice Fishing Contest Held
The 16th annual Poplar River Ice Fishing Tournament was held on Saturday, Feb. 3. Teams from around the region entered the seasonal contest. After a location change, the event was well attended and saw warm weather. Competitors moved to the U.S. Highway 2 boat ramp west of town, due to muddy conditions at Dego Bend. There were a total of 22 fish caught, including northern pike, walleye, sauger, ling and one crawfish, according to posts from organizers.
Josh Jones placed first with a 3.3-pound pike, Dustin Kluth placed second with a 2.12-pound pike and third place went to Blake Kwasney with a 2.11-pound pike.
