Lions Defeat Scobey In League Battle
Lustre Christian’s boys’ basketball team avenged its only defeat of the season when the Lions knocked off Scobey, 4939, on Saturday, Feb. 10.
The Lions were ahead by only a 16-12 in the home game during the second quarter until striking for eight straight points on four points by Johnslee Pierre, an inside basket by Byron Ewing off a nice pass from Clay Reddig and a layup by Terran Joseph.
Lustre held a 26-16 halftime lead, but three-point shooting helped Scobey close the gap to 30-27 during the third quarter.
Clay Reddig nailed a three-pointer as Lustre held a 39-31 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
A drive by Cayden Klatt, a hoop by Ewing and a tip-in by Pierre increased the Lions’ lead to 49-37 with only 2:12 remaining.
Leading Lustre’s attack were Pierre with 17 and Ewing with 13 points. Also scoring were Joseph with seven, Cam Reddig with five, Klatt with four and Clay Reddig with two.
John Carney scored 11 points for the Spartans.
Lustre’s boys will open against Frazer at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14, for the district tournament in Glasgow.
Other first-round games are North Country facing Nashua at 1:30 p.m. and Circle taking on Dodson at 7:30 p.m. Scobey receives a first-round bye. The top four teams advance to the divisional tournament.
