Poplar Girls Defeat Wolf Point In League Play
Poplar’s full-court pressure led the Indians to a first quarter lead as they defeated Wolf Point, 67-39, during girls’ basketball action in Poplar on Thursday, Feb. 8.
The Indians jumped out to a 14-1 advantage with five points by Cammie Martell and four points by Kessee Erickson leading the charge.
After Kashlyn Speak Thunder accounted for four straight points for the Wolves, A layup by Rikki Belton put Poplar up 16-5 to end the quarter.
With the score at 24-11 midway into the second quarter, Poplar struck for six straight points on two baskets by C. Martell, including one off a nice pass from Braelyn Nordwick, and a hoop by Sadee Archambeault for a 30-11 margin.
Brenna Blount connected on three three-point shots during the final 2:51 of the half to close the half-time margin to 34-20.
A coast-to-coast drive by Mattie Falls Down and a three-pointer by Nordwick increased Poplar’s lead to 4523. Three baskets by Nordwick helped the Indians earn a 56-31 advantage at the end of the period.
The Indians ran off seven straight points early in the fourth quarter for a 63-33 advantage.
Poplar’s top scorers were Erickson with 17, Nordwick with 14 and C. Martell with 12 points.
Also scoring were Falls Down with nine, EmmaRae Martell with six, Archambeault with five, Kyra Stormy with two and Belton with two.
Blount led the Wolves with 13 points including four three-pointers. Speak Thunder finished with 12 points. Also scoring were Keeley Blount-Henderson with four, Ameliya Doney with three, Ali Corpron with three, Juellz Bauer with two and Karmyn Plain Feather with two points.
