Cowgirls Fall Against Plentywood Team

The Culbertson Cowgirls fell behind early and lost to Plentywood, 58-20, during the opening round of the District 2C tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 13.

After Plentywood took a 5-0 lead, Culbertson’s Leandra Perkins scored with 6:42 left in the opening quarter. The Wildcats gained an 11-2 advantage in the quarter.

Plentywood increased the gap to 24-6 during the second quarter, but the Cowgirls accounted for six straight points on five points by Destiny Thompson and a free throw by Mariana Burciaga.

The Wildcats held a 26-12 half-time lead and struck for the first 12 points of the third quarter. Plentywood led 4916 at the end of the period.

Thompson finished with nine points for the Cowgirls. Also scoring were Emma Berwick with five, Perkins with four and Burciaga with two.

Mallory Tommerup led Plentywood with 23 points including three three-pointers. Audrey Sampson and Paityn Curtiss added 11 points each.
