Indians Defeat Glasgow In Semi-final Round
A big fourth quarter was the difference as Poplar defeated Glasgow, 55-45, in the semi-final round of the District 2B boys’ basketball tournament held in Wolf Point on Thursday, Feb. 15.
The Indians were behind by a 38-36 margin at the end of three quarters of play and by a 42-38 score until Kaniel Ricker connected from threepoint range at the 6:15 mark.
A drive by Walker Bushia put Poplar ahead, 43-42, with 6:15 remaining. Ricker then fired in a 12-footer with 4:38 left in the contest.
The Indians kept rolling on a three-pointer by Quinn Sutherland for a 48-42 remaining in the semi-final round battle.
Delray Lilley hit a runner shot at the 2:17 mark for an eight-point lead.
The Scotties stayed close on a three-pointer to bring the score to 50-45 with 2:01 remaining.
Poplar’s defense held Glasgow scoreless from there and pulled away on free throws by Lilley and Geordy Medicine Cloud.
Reaching double figures for the Indians were Lilley with 15, Medicine Cloud with 14 and Burshia with 10 points. Also scoring for Poplar were Ricker with seven, Sutherland with six and Cetan Growing Thunder with three points.
Leading Glasgow were Cade Hudyma with 19, Myles Yoakam with 12 and Wyatt Babb with 10 points.
After a 12-12 deadlock in the first quarter, the Scotties jumped out to a 20-12 lead in the second period. Hudyma scored 10 points and Yoakam hit two three-pointers during the second quarter.
