Wolves Come Back To Beat Glasgow
Wolf Point’s girls made Valentines Day a heartbreaking one for Glasgow when the Lady Wolves came back for an incredible 50-46 double overtime first-round district tournament victory in Wolf Point on Wednesday.
Glasgow enjoyed a 23-6 half-time advantage. Three-pointers by Juellz Bauer led the Wolves back in the third quarter, but the Scotties struck for the final seven points of the third quarter for a 33-16 margin.
Wolf Point’s full-court defensive pressure created havoc against the Scotties throughout the fourth quarter. A three-pointer by Amaya Martinez and four straight points by Keeley Henderson- Blount closed the gap to 33-23 with 5:13 left.
After Glasgow’s Mayzie Yoakam scored off a rebound, Wolf Point’s Bauer accounted for hoops on a drive and then a steal and drive to pull the Wolves to eight points.
Blount-Henderson then tallied after a steal by Kashlyn Speak Thunder to make it a six-point game. Bauer came through with another three-pointer to cut the gap to 35-32 with 2:48 left as the Wolves’ fans started to go wild with excitement.
After a free throw by Azalei Ackerman, Wolf Point pulled even at 35-35 when Blount-Henderson scored right before the shot clock expired. The Scotties missed two shot attempts in the final 30 seconds and the game went into overtime.
During the first overtime, Glasgow gained a quick 4035 lead on a three-pointer by Joely Chappell and a basket by Hayden Green. The Wolves were able to respond on a three-point play by Bauer and a three-pointer by Ackerman to grab a 41-40 lead with 56 seconds remaining.
The Scotties tied the game at 41-41 on a free throw by Yoakam, so another overtime session was needed.
The Wolves gained a 47-44 advantage on three-pointers by Bauer and Jorilynn Black Eagle. A free throw by Amaliya Doney kept the Wolves up 48-46 with 35 seconds remaining.
After Glasgow missed a shot, Black Eagle connected on a pair of free tosses for a 50-46 lead with only 13 seconds remaining. Bauer led the Wolves with 20 points including four three-pointers. Blount-Henderson finished with 11 points.
Also scoring were Black Eagle with five, Ackerman with four, Brenna Blount with three, Doney with two, Glasgow’s Chappell finished with 21 points. Green had 14 and Yoakam added 11 points.
