Lions Lose To Scobey
Lustre’s girls’ basketball team led after three quarters but came up short against Scobey, 49-42, in loser-out action at the Eastern C divisional tournament in Glasgow on Saturday, March 2.
The Lions held a 39-31 advantage late in the third quarter, but a three-pointer by Claire Lekvold pulled Scobey to 39-34 at the end of the period. Camrie Holum opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer for the Spartans.
Lustre’s Alexa Reddig hit a free throw for a 40-37 lead with 6:17 remaining, but Scobey struck for the game’s next eight points including six by 6-0 junior Kaylie Aanstad.
Reddig connected on a pull-up jumper to cut the gap to 45-42 with 2:25 remaining. The Lions were unable to score again in the contest.
Kencia Brown scored 15 and Reddig had 14 points to lead the Lions. Grace Brown added nine points. Lauryn Holzrichter and Hannah Brown each had two points.
Top scorers for the Spartans were Holum with 12 and Aanstad with 11 points.
Behind by a 13-9 margin, the Lions ran off the last six points of the opening quarter on three points each by G. Brown and K. Brown.
The contest was deadlocked at 15-15 when Lustre accounted for eight straight points on two free throws by G. Brown, a steal and drive by K. Brown, a 16-footer by Reddig and a basket off a rebound by G. Brown.
Four points by Avery Wolfe helped the Spartans close the margin to 25-19 at intermission.
K. Brown connected on a 16-footer to increase Lustre’s lead to 31-22 with 5:14 remaining in the third quarter, but Scobey’s Mya Green and Kayla Carney hit three-pointers to cut the gap to 33-30.
