Poplar Opens With Win Over Conrad
Poplar’s girls’ basketball team enjoyed an excellent game shooting as the Indians rolled over Conrad, 74-29, in the first round of the Northern B divisional tournament in Conrad on Thursday, Feb. 29.
Three-pointers by Braelyn Nordwick and Cammie Martell led the Indians to a quick 6-3 advantage to open the contest.
Conrad, however, gained a 10-6 lead. After Nordwick hit a pair of free throws, Bailey Dupree and C. Martell connected on back-to-back three-pointers for a 14-10 advantage. C. Martell fired in another three-pointer to end the quarter at 17-10.
Poplar then struck for the first 12 points of the second quarter on five points by C. Martell, an inside basket by Kessee Erickson, a fastbreak basket by Sadee Archambeault and three free throws by Nordwick for a 29-10 lead.
The Indians increased their lead to 33-12 on a 14-footer by Nordwick and an inside shot by EmmaRae Martell. Kyra Stormy hit a three-pointer at the end of the half for a 3920 advantage. Dupree connected on two three-pointers and E. Martell and Nordwick added three-pointers during the third quarter as the Indians increased their lead to 30 points.
C. Martell finished with 19 points and five three-pointers to lead the Indians. Nordwick scored 16 points and Dupree added 12 points.
