Wolves Fall To Fairfield
After a close first half, the Wolf Point Wolves lost to Fairfield, 50-16, during the first round of the Northern B divisional girls’ basketball tournament in Conrad on Thursday, Feb. 29.
The Wolves trailed by only a 23-16 score at the end of the first half. Fairfield outscored the Wolves by a 16-0 margin in the third quarter and an 11-0 margin in the fourth period.
Wolf Point fell behind by an 8-2 score in the first quarter, but Keeley Blount-Henderson scored inside with 2:05 left in the period. A 14-footer by Amaya Martinez cut the margin to 8-6.
The scoring of Kashlyn Speak Thunder and Blount-Henderson kept the Wolves close at 15-12 with 3:58 remaining in the half.
After a three-pointer by Fairfield’s Rylie Schnenk, Wolf Point pulled to 19-16 on a drive by Blount-Henderson and two free throws by Speak Thunder.
Fairfield’s Emma Schenk accounted for four points in the last 36 seconds of the half for a 23-16 score.
Scoring for the Wolves were Blount-Henderson with eight, Speak Thunder with six and Corpron with two.
