The Wolf Point Yellowjackets and the Froid area Bulls battled in Babe Ruth baseball action Saturday, May 25, but the real winners were sportsmanship and kindness during play in Wolf Point.

With the Bulls well ahead heading into the bottom of the second game’s final inning, recent Poplar graduate Joey Blount walked and then advanced to third on two steals. When Blount crossed the plate on a wild pitch, applause and happiness were shared by the fans and players of both teams.

Between games, Blount was honored during a brief ceremony where both teams gave him autographed baseball and caps.

“Thank you, I really appreciate it,” Blount told the players. “I love all of you guys.”

On the field, the Bulls won the first game by a 16-1 final.

The Bulls struck for 11 runs in the first inning. An insidethe- park home run by Tristan Tommerup scored two runs to highlight the frame.

The Bulls added five runs in the second. The inning featured doubles by Teegan Fossum and Carsen Kelm.

Wolf Point’s Keyden Beston scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third inning.

The Bulls won the second game by a 29-7 final. The Bulls gained a 15-0 advantage in the first inning. Offensive highlights included a two-RBI double by Leo Whiteman and a three-RBI hit by Tristan Tommerup.

Wolf Point scored three runs in the bottom of the second for an 18-3 game. The Bulls increased the margin to 29-3 in the top of the third.

The Bulls opened the weekend by defeating Sidney by scores of 12-2 and 16-2 on Friday, May 24.

Wolf Point’s Babe Ruth program features 16 players this season. Most of the players are 11-12 year olds. Only four of the players have any baseball experience.
