Bulls Compete During Tournament In Billings
The Post #49 Bulls outscored the Lockwood Razorbacks, 12-11, in the first round of an American Legion baseball tournament in Billings on Friday, July 19.
The Bulls jumped out to an 8-2 lead during the first two innings of play. A double by Henry Kukowski knocked home Alex Moreno for the game’s first run. A single by Jaydeen Hanshew brought home both Ty Leischner and Kukowski. Logan Brown then connected for a double to score Hanshew.
In the top of the second inning, Kukowski doubled to bring home Moreno. Preston Swenson followed with a double to score Kukowski. After Swenson scored on a hit by Plenny Williams, Williams went on to score on an error.
Three runs in the third and fifth innings helped Lockwood tie the game at 11-11.
The Bulls accounted for the winning run when a single by Kash Ator scored Leischner in the top of the sixth inning.
P. Williams was the game’s winning pitcher. Ator pitched five innings for the Bulls.
Leading the Bulls’ attack were Kukowski with four hits and Moreno with three hits. Leischner and Moreno each scored three runs in the contest. Kukowski and Hanshew had three runs batted in each.
Kukowski connected for two doubles. Adding doubles were Cooper King, L. Brown and Swenson.
The Bulls then knocked off Billings Upper Deck by an 11-8 final on Friday, July 19.
The Bulls were ahead by only a 3-2 margin until striking for three runs in the top of the fourth inning. After a single by Swenson brought in Moreno, P. Williams connected for a double to score both Swenson and Leischner.
After Billings closed the gap to 6-4, the Bulls responded with five runs in the fifth inning. A single by Leischner scored Moreno with the first run of the frame. Kukowski then scored when Hanshew was hit by a pitch.
A double by Kash Ator knocked home both Swenson and Leischner. Mitchell Brown then came through with a single to score Hanshew.
Kukowski pitched five innings for the victory. He fanned four batters.
Swenson, Moreno, Leischner and P. Williams led the Bulls with two hits each.
Leischner and Swenson each scored three times. P. Williams finished with three RBIs.
On Saturday, July 20, the Bulls lost to Billings Upper Deck B by a 22-1 final.
Preston Swenson accounted for two of the Bulls’ three hits.
The Bulls then fell against the Valor Vikings, 14-3, at the tournament on Sunday, July 21.
The Vikings pulled away with six runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Scoring the Bulls’ three runs were Kukowski, L. Brown and M. Brown.
Kukowski led the attack with two hits.
