The harvest in Lustre is going full swing, and folks are enjoying the last two weeks of summer holidays for their students.
The immediate family of the late Albert Wall traveled to Jordan Valley, Idaho, to attend the last Sunday service of their brother Roger’s Pastorate of two very rural churches on Aug. 4. Forty-eight years ago, the Lustre E.M.B. commissioned Roger and Terry Wall with American Sunday School Union as missionaries after he completed studies at Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland, Ore.
He is the son of the late Albert and Ethel Wall. They served in Bible camp ministry in Blue Lake, Calif., for 32 years, followed by 16 years as pastor of High Desert Bible Church in Jordan Valley, Idaho, and a church in Arock, Ore., in the afternoon.
One of the songs the congregation sang was The Name I Love, written by Terry’s mother, Dorothy Wetmore. Roger spoke on “Two Essentials, Three Gifts” in his sermon based on John 5:16-24. Pastor Wall encouraged his congregation to “Never weaken on these truths: The Bible is the Word of God, infallible and inerrant. Jesus is full Deity, became flesh, and gave Himself as our Savior. The Message of the church hasn’t changed.”
The new pastor, Scott Menez, spoke on I Timothy 3:1, saying it was “a special blessing and honor to follow you.” “Tenac” is the word used here for honor, and it is used for a person who seeks to do a fine work, not a mere position. The fine work to which a “Pastor is called, is to faithfully present the Word of God,” and we are instructed to honor those who “work hard at preaching and teaching.”
He commended Roger and Terry on 48 years of caring for the souls of people, no more farming, but dedicated to study and caring for people.
Attending the joint worship service of these churches in honor of their brother’s service and retirement recognition were Dwaine and Vivian Wall of Lustre, Eldon and Elaine Unrau of Billings, Tim and Linda Wall of Laurel and all but one of the grandchildren and children of Roger and Terry Wall.
Their daughter Sharon is a one-room school house teacher in Idaho and their daughter Sandra and her husband, Aaron, work in the Nampa/Caldwell areas.
Rev. and Mrs. Scott Menez are raising their support to be missionary/pastor in their place and serve with INFAITH, a mission especially interested in rural communities.
