Glasgow Man Seeks House 31 Spot

Republican Kevin Taylor is seeking the House District 31 seat, which includes Wolf Point and Poplar. Democrat Frank Smith is the incumbent and is seeking re-election.

Taylor, who lives just outside of Glasgow, said the reason that he’s running for the position is that just complaining doesn’t get anything done. It’s important to get involved.

“Someone told me to do something about it,” Taylor said. “I’ve always tried to understand how everything works.”

Taylor is a small business owner with his wife and sister. The businesses include storage, auctioneering along with running an ice cream truck.

As far as issues that he says people are most concerned about are roads, jobs and affordable housing.

“If you make $15-16 an hour, it’s hard to find any place to live,” Taylor said.

Taylor, who visited with the Fort Peck Tribal Executive Board last week, is passionate about the suicide and drug problems in the region and the state.

“Suicide is terrible. Something needs to be done with drugs and kids leaving us,” Taylor said. He added that he will try to work with both local and out of the area officials to different eyes on the drug problem.

He is also interested in economic development efforts.

Taylor feels that a Republican representing the district could be beneficial with the party holding a majority at the state level.

“I’m going to represent our area and our state,” he said.
