Bainville Aims To Contend For Football Playoff Berth
Bainville’s football team entered the final week of last season with a chance of qualifying for the state playoffs. This year, the Bulldogs are looking to break down the door into six-man post season play.
Bainville Coach Shawn Romo noted that, of the Bulldogs’ four losses last year, one came in overtime and another was by only five points.
“A lot of teams lost a lot from last year,” Romo said of the conference race. “There will be a lot of parity.”
The Bulldogs have a solid turnout of 16 players this season.
“We have good numbers. We have a good core of returning players,” Romo said. “There are quite a few freshmen that were with us last year, but they didn’t see much playing time. We are fortunate to have as many kids out for this size of school.”
Top returning players for Bainville are senior Isaiah Bjorge, senior Trevor Robertus, junior Rowan Wilson and junior Kaiden Holmes.
“We have quite a few kids who are pretty quick,” Romo said of the squad’s strength.
Size and experience are question marks entering the season.
“We lost a lot of seniors. A lot of our kids will need to step up,” Romo said.
The Bulldogs will open their season at home against conference foe Jordan on Saturday, Aug. 31.
“It will be real nice having our home crowd and the excitement of the first game at home,” Romo said.
